On October 27, 2026, Oracle and OpenAI announced 4 new products. The headline one is Oracle AI Workspace: plugins inside ChatGPT that let your staff question Oracle Fusion and NetSuite in plain language and carry out approved actions in them, with permissions and approvals unchanged. If your company runs on either system, the practical move today is not buying anything, it is reviewing user permissions and approval workflows before the product arrives, because Oracle has announced neither a release date nor a price. And the free small-business bundle worth $12,000 a year is for US companies only.
What exactly did Oracle announce?
According to Oracle's official press release from Oracle AI World in Las Vegas, the partnership brings OpenAI models, ChatGPT and Codex together with the company's applications, data and cloud, in 4 products:
| Product | What it does | Who it matters to |
|---|---|---|
| Oracle AI Workspace | Plugins in ChatGPT that reach Fusion, NetSuite, the AI Database and OCI, pull the information and carry out approved actions | Finance, procurement and planning teams |
| Oracle AI Security Mesh | A managed service using OpenAI cyber models to find and fix vulnerabilities in your applications and infrastructure, within a scope you define | IT and security managers |
| Oracle App Composer | Staff build an internal app with Codex without coding skills, and Oracle runs it on OCI | Departments that run their work in Excel files |
| Oracle AI SMB Bundle | A free-to-start package with ChatGPT Business, NetSuite QuickStart and $12,000 a year in cloud credits | US startups only |
What would daily work look like once it arrives?
The example the company gives on its official partnership page is a question every finance manager knows: can we close this month? Instead of an accountant exporting reports from Fusion Financials, the planning tool and NetSuite and stitching them into one file, they ask in ChatGPT, and the plugins bring together the entries, month-end activities and what is missing, and coordinate the approved work. Other examples of the same kind:
- A procurement manager asks: which purchase orders are late with this quarter's suppliers?
- A general manager asks: where is cash flow compared with last month?
- An accounts clerk asks for an action to be prepared, and it goes through the same approval workflow that already exists in the system.
The release stresses that all this keeps the governance, approvals and controls that enterprise operations require. In other words, ChatGPT does not give an employee a permission they do not already have in the system.
What has not arrived yet?
- No date and no price: the release gives no availability date or pricing for any of the 4 products, and carries an explicit disclaimer that it describes product direction, not a commitment to deliver.
- The free bundle is not for us: the terms require a privately held, for-profit, independent US business, exclude existing customers who have consumed more than $250,000 in its credits, grant the credits yearly for up to 3 years, and allow one enrollment per company.
- Where data is processed is not stated: The company has 2 live cloud regions in the Kingdom, Jeddah and Riyadh, according to the Oracle Cloud regions page, but the release does not say where ChatGPT processes Workspace requests.
The Origami view
We read this announcement as a change in the front end of ERP, not in ERP itself: entries and accounts stay in Fusion or NetSuite, but staff may rarely open those screens from now on. That means the value of your system will depend more than ever on the quality of its data and the order of its permissions, because a clever question on messy data returns a confident, wrong answer.
For Saudi businesses there is one more point: before any question about payroll or customers passes through an AI service, ask your provider in writing where the data is processed and stored, and review that with your legal adviser against personal data protection requirements. And if you have not chosen an ERP yet, this announcement is a reason to ask every vendor: how does your system connect to AI tools? We covered the bigger picture in Artificial Intelligence in Modern ERP Systems.
What to do now
- Review permissions: ask your system administrator for a list of who can approve and pay in your ERP, and remove what is not needed.
- Write down approval workflows: any action run from ChatGPT will go through them, so make sure they are documented and working.
- Pick 3 recurring questions: such as month-end close status, overdue receivables and slow-moving stock, as the first things to test when it becomes available.
- Ask your implementation partner: about the release date in the region, where data is processed, and whether it requires a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise subscription.
- Do not buy anything yet: no product has a published price, so any offer presented to you as this product deserves an extra question.
