Make a PowerPoint Presentation With AI: ChatGPT Now Builds Editable Slides and Exports Them

Yes, you can now make a PowerPoint presentation with AI inside ChatGPT itself. On 16 October 2026 OpenAI launched ChatGPT Slides, which builds an editable deck from a conversation, files or an outline. You and your team then edit it at the same time, and from the browser you export it to PowerPoint as a .pptx file, to PDF or to Google Slides. It is available to Pro, Business and Enterprise users who have Space enabled, and the cheapest Pro plan starts at $100 a month, about SAR 375. If your monthly management deck or client pitch costs an employee a full day, this is worth testing this week, provided you check the numbers before anyone sees them.

What is ChatGPT Slides?

According to OpenAI's official release notes, Slides lets you create presentations and keep working on them with your team in Space. Space is where OpenAI brings pages, slides, uploaded files and shared work together in one place; it was previously called Library. The difference from the old way is that ChatGPT used to write the slide text and you copied it into PowerPoint by hand. Now it builds the file itself, with headings, images, tables and charts, and every slide stays editable.

The same day, OpenAI added parallel agents to ChatGPT Pro, meaning several agents that each work on part of a task. For most business owners, though, the slides matter more, because they cut a job that repeats every week in almost every company.

Who can use it, and what does it cost?

The prices of the three Pro plans are on OpenAI's official Pro plans page, and we broke them down in our article on ChatGPT Pro 500 versus Pro 200. Note that a paid subscription alone is not enough: Space must be enabled for your account, and in company workspaces the admin controls that setting.

How to make a PowerPoint presentation with AI, step by step

These steps come from OpenAI's official getting-started guide for ChatGPT Space:

  1. Start with your material. Ask ChatGPT to create a presentation in Space from a conversation, an outline or attached files, and state the audience, the goal and the number of slides. You can attach one of your company's previous decks so it follows the same design and layout.
  2. Refine the deck. Open it in Space and edit text, images, shapes, tables and charts yourself, or select an element and choose Request edits so ChatGPT changes it.
  3. Work with your team. Share the deck with edit access so colleagues work on the same slides at the same time and leave shared comments.
  4. Present or export. Present from inside ChatGPT with speaker notes, or export the deck to one of the three formats.
  5. Review before sending. The same guide recommends checking the facts, charts and formatting in the exported file before sharing it.

The sample prompt in the guide works as it is for a management meeting:

Create an 8-slide quarterly business review in Space using these notes and metrics. The audience is our leadership team. Cover results, risks, and decisions needed. Use the attached deck as a style reference, preserve the source numbers, and flag missing information.

The phrase «preserve the source numbers» is not a detail: it is what stops the model from rounding your sales figure or inventing a growth rate that looks convincing.

Limits to know before you rely on it

  • Gradual rollout. If you do not see the feature, it has most likely not reached your account yet, or Space is not enabled in your company workspace.
  • Windows. OpenAI says the Windows app may create a plain PowerPoint file instead of a collaborative deck; the fix is to switch to cloud mode or use ChatGPT on the web.
  • Mobile is for viewing. You create the deck through conversation and view it; direct element editing happens on the web or the desktop app.
  • Exporting is not the end of the job. Open the .pptx after export and check fonts and text direction, especially on Arabic slides that need right-to-left layout.

Your company data inside shared decks

A shared deck means anything you put in it is visible to everyone with access. OpenAI's Space administration guide for companies explains that sharing a page does not expose your private chats or saved memory, but any details you copy or summarise onto the page are visible to collaborators. It also states that OpenAI does not train on ChatGPT Enterprise data by default, and that files and pages can carry hidden malicious instructions that try to redirect ChatGPT or disclose information, and safeguards reduce that risk without eliminating it.

The practical rule: a marketing deck or a general internal deck is fine, but a deck with customer data, salaries or contracts should not sit in a personal account. Put it in a company workspace where an admin controls sharing and data retention.

The Origami view

Slides solves a real problem: hours lost arranging slides instead of thinking about what they say. We see its biggest value in recurring decks, such as the weekly sales report, the project pitch to a client and the management meeting summary. But a deck is only as good as the numbers you feed it. If your data is scattered across separate spreadsheets, ChatGPT will design a beautiful deck around figures that may be wrong. That is why we start with our clients by connecting the data source, the sales or accounting system, to a single reporting dashboard; turning it into a deck then becomes an exact step rather than a guess. Frequently asked questions

Can I make a PowerPoint presentation with AI in ChatGPT for free?

No. ChatGPT Slides, launched on 16 October 2026, is available only to Pro, Business and Enterprise users with Space enabled, and the cheapest Pro plan starts at $100 a month, about SAR 375.

Do I get a PowerPoint file I can edit on my own computer?

Yes. From the browser you export to PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF or Google Slides, and the desktop app opens the deck in PowerPoint or Keynote when installed. Check fonts and text direction after export, especially on Arabic slides.

Can my team edit the same deck with me?

Yes. You share the deck with view or edit access; anyone with edit access works on the same slides at the same time and leaves shared comments, and you can mention ChatGPT in a comment to request a revision.

Is it safe to put my company's figures in ChatGPT decks?

General figures and marketing decks are fine. Customer data, salaries and contracts belong in a company workspace on Business or Enterprise where an admin controls sharing, because everything in a shared deck is visible to everyone with access to it.
