Canva Craft is the design platform's first in-house AI image model, unveiled on October 22, 2026 and open to every user worldwide through Dream Lab. You describe a post, poster or banner in one sentence, in any language, and it returns up to four options at up to 2K resolution, in more than 30 aspect ratios, with text the company says it can write in 55 languages. Generations come out of your monthly AI allowance: up to 20 uses on the Free plan and up to 200 Premium uses on Pro, according to the official AI usage help page. For a small Saudi business, that means a social post or menu graphic in minutes, provided you check the Arabic text before you publish.
What is Canva Craft, exactly?
According to the official announcement, Craft is the first foundation model built and trained from scratch by the company's own AI lab. It is not a general photo generator bolted onto a design app: it was trained on millions of human-made templates from the platform's library, including posters, social posts, presentations, infographics and menus. That is why it handles layout, hierarchy and text better than models trained mostly on photographs.
Craft works in two stages. First, a planning model writes a detailed plan of the image: which elements appear, where they sit, their relative size and any text that must appear. Then a rendering model turns that plan into the final image. In practice, the text on your poster is more likely to be legible and to land where you asked for it.
The published numbers
- Resolution: up to 2K, in more than 30 aspect ratios, or a custom size you enter.
- Languages: prompts in any language, and text inside the image in 55 languages.
- Ranking: fourth overall on DesignArena at launch, and first for People and Portraits (out of 87 models) and Landscapes and Nature (out of 85 models).
- Testing: The company's designers and researchers compared more than 25,000 pairs of images against leading models.
- Scale: more than a quarter of a billion people use the platform, the company says.
The company also lists two faster, cheaper variants, Craft-fast and Craft-ultrafast, as coming, with no release date.
How much can you use it before you pay?
The AI usage page sets one shared monthly allowance per user for its AI tools:
- Free plan: up to 20 uses a month of Standard or Premium AI tools, with no access to Ultra tools. The allowance resets at midnight UTC on the first of each month.
- Pro and Teams: up to 200 Premium uses or up to 20 Ultra uses a month.
- Business and Enterprise: up to 400 Premium uses or up to 40 Ultra uses a month.
In Teams and Business, each member has their own allowance; it is not pooled. The company does not say which tier each Craft generation counts against, and complex prompts use more. So after your first ten generations, open Settings, then Billing, then AI usage, and see how much is left before you plan a month of content around it.
Can you use the images in ads?
The AI Product Terms say you own your output and may use it for any lawful purpose, at your own risk. Two limits matter. If you edit a photo from the built-in library, you do not own the result; it stays under that content's licence. And outputs are not unique: another user may get a similar image. For a logo or a brand mark you plan to register, use a designer, not a prompt.
What about Arabic text?
The Dream Lab help page says prompts work in every language the platform offers. The company has not published the list of 55 languages Craft can write inside an image. Our advice: write the prompt in Arabic, ask for short Arabic text, and zoom in on every letter before publishing. If the lettering is off, generate the image without text and add the Arabic copy as a normal text box with Magic Layers or the editor, where you control the font and direction.
How to try it today in four steps
- From the homepage, open Dream Lab (under More, not inside the editor).
- Describe one real need: «Instagram post for a Riyadh coffee shop, weekend offer, warm colours, space for a headline».
- Pick the closest of the four options and refine it with a follow-up instruction, such as «make the cup larger».
- Convert it to editable layers, replace the text with your exact offer and prices, and add your logo.
The Origami view
Craft lowers the cost of a first draft, not the cost of good marketing. A shop that publishes five posts a week can now test ideas without waiting for a designer, but the offer, the price and the Arabic wording still have to be right.
