On 1 November 2026, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Saudi Aramco closed a deal in which Aramco takes 49% of HUMAIN through a wholly owned subsidiary, while PIF keeps 51%. Aramco puts about SAR 9.9 billion ($2.6 billion) in cash into the company during 2026, plus AI, compute and digital assets. For your company it means three things: more computing capacity inside the Kingdom, as HUMAIN plans 3 gigawatts of data centres by 2030; the Arabic ALLaM model backed by two of the largest national entities; and solutions the company says are aimed at both the public and private sectors. But the deal announced no price or new product for businesses yet, so the right move now is to prepare, not to wait.
What exactly happened?
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| May 2025 | HUMAIN launched as a PIF company to build the full AI stack |
| 28 October 2025 | PIF and Aramco sign a non-binding term sheet for Aramco to acquire a significant minority stake, subject to definitive agreements and regulatory approvals (Aramco statement) |
| 1 November 2026 | Deal closed: 49% Aramco, 51% PIF, about SAR 9.9 billion in cash from Aramco in 2026 plus AI and compute assets (Aramco statement) |
According to PIF's release, HUMAIN is building capabilities in four areas: next-generation data centres, high-performance compute and cloud platforms, advanced models including ALLaM, which the release calls one of the world's most powerful multimodal Arabic language models, and AI solutions for industries. The release says the deal will help HUMAIN deliver solutions that "help the public and private sectors to deploy AI at scale", and that the company aims to become one of the leading exporters of AI globally.
What did the two sides say?
Yazeed Al-Humied, PIF Deputy Governor and Head of MENA Investments, said that "bringing PIF and Aramco's AI portfolio of investments together under HUMAIN creates a powerful synergy" that fuels talent, technology and intellectual property, and widens private sector participation in PIF's portfolio. Amin Nasser, Aramco President and CEO, said: "The HUMAIN deal is very important to Aramco." He added, according to the release, that Aramco has achieved $11.3 billion in Technology Realized Value since 2023, a significant portion of it from AI solutions, and that "AI will therefore play a vital role in the future of business."
According to the same release, Aramco intends to use HUMAIN's infrastructure to turn AI capabilities into industrial applications in its operations, and it and its affiliates will benefit from HUMAIN's services as a shareholder and strategic partner.
What does this mean for your company?
- Compute closer to you. 3 gigawatts of AI data centres by 2030 means more options to run AI tools and keep their data inside the Kingdom. That matters if your business handles sensitive personal data, because the Personal Data Protection Law sets conditions for transferring it abroad. We mapped these centres in our article on AI infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
- An Arabic model with stronger backing. ALLaM now sits inside a company owned jointly by PIF and Aramco. If your customer service or content is in Arabic, read what ALLaM and HUMAIN mean for your business and test it on one task.
- A signal for energy and industry. The largest company in the market will build its industrial applications on HUMAIN's infrastructure. If you are a supplier, contractor or software firm serving that sector, expect AI to become part of what the client asks for, and prepare now.
- What has not changed yet. The official statements announced no prices or new products for small and medium businesses. Do not delay a project that works today while waiting for an announcement, and do not sign a long contract on a promise that has not been made.
5 practical steps now
- List the AI tools you use and which customer data they can reach.
- Ask each vendor in writing where your data is processed and stored, inside the Kingdom or abroad, and what the contract guarantees. If it leaves the Kingdom, make sure the contract names who receives it and why it is transferred.
- Pick one Arabic use case and measure it, such as answering customer enquiries; try an Arabic model and a global model on it and compare quality and cost.
- Avoid lock-in to one vendor. Require in your contracts that you can export your data and move to another provider, and set how long the vendor has to hand your data back when the contract ends.
- Follow the official announcements from HUMAIN, PIF and Aramco before building your plan on any second-hand report.
