Since October 28, 2026, OpenAI gives eligible ChatGPT Business and Pro subscriptions free monthly credits for its API, the paid service developers use to build AI into their own apps and systems. A Business workspace gets $20 (about SAR 75) for every paid Standard seat and $100 (about SAR 375) for every paid Premium seat, pooled and capped at $500 (about SAR 1,875) a month. Pro plans get $100, $200 or $500 depending on the tier. The credits are not added on their own: the owner of the subscription must claim them once, and unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. If your company already pays for ChatGPT Business, this is budget you can use this month to test an internal AI tool at no extra cost.
How much does your company get?
According to OpenAI's official page on API credits for ChatGPT subscribers, the monthly allowance is:
- Pro ($100 tier): $100 a month. Pro ($200 tier): $200. Pro ($500 tier): $500.
- Business Standard: $20 per paid seat. Business Premium: $100 per paid seat.
- Business cap: $500 per workspace per monthly cycle, or $6,000 (about SAR 22,500) per annual cycle for workspaces that pay a year upfront, which receive the whole year's grant in one issuance.
A worked example: a workspace with 5 Standard seats and 3 Premium seats gets 5 × $20 + 3 × $100 = $400 a month. A workspace with 10 Standard seats gets $200, about SAR 750. Plus, Go, Free and Enterprise plans are not eligible. Your first grant is prorated for the days left in the current billing cycle. For the differences between Pro tiers themselves, see our article on ChatGPT Pro 500 versus Pro 200.
Who can claim, and how?
Three conditions, all from the official page:
- An active, paid Pro or Business subscription that is at least 7 days old. Free trials and complimentary subscriptions do not qualify.
- The person claiming must own both the ChatGPT subscription (or the Business workspace) and the API organization that receives the credits. Being an admin is not enough.
- The same email address on the ChatGPT account and the API account.
The steps: the owner signs in to ChatGPT, opens Settings then Billing (Pro) or the workspace billing settings or Admin Console (Business), finds the API credits benefit, picks the API organization and confirms. The other route starts from the API Platform: sign in with the same email, choose the organization, open Billing and link the subscription. After that, grants arrive automatically at each renewal while the offer lasts. No API payment card is needed. Saudi Arabia is on OpenAI's list of supported API countries.
What do the credits cover, and what don't they?
They cover paid API usage billed to the linked organization: the Responses API for text, code and image understanding, the Agents API, the Decisions API, GPT-Live and the Realtime API for voice, the Images API, and built-in tools such as web search, file search and Code Interpreter. They do not cover Codex through API keys, and they do not raise your team's usage limits inside ChatGPT. When the free balance runs out and no purchased credit remains, requests fail with error 429 and the code credit_balance_exhausted, so a tool built on the free credits simply stops until you top up.
What can a Saudi business build with $200 to $500 a month?
The credits suit a small pilot that proves value before you spend real money:
- Sorting incoming customer messages from email or the website form by topic and urgency.
- Summarising daily sales or support reports into a short message for the manager.
- Reading supplier invoices and purchase orders and extracting their fields into a sheet or your ERP.
- A first internal assistant that answers staff questions from your own policy documents through file search.
Two cautions. First, the credits expire every cycle, so the pilot needs a clear owner and a 30-day goal, otherwise the money disappears unused. Second, the API key is a password to your account: keep it on the server, never inside a mobile app or website code. If your tool processes customer personal data, the Personal Data Protection Law applies whatever the source of the budget. And if an older tool of yours still runs on GPT-4o, read about its January 14, 2027 shutdown; the new credits can pay for testing the replacement.
Five steps this week
- Find out who owns your ChatGPT Business workspace. If it is a former employee or an agency, transfer ownership first.
- Create an API organization with the same owner email, or use the existing one.
- Claim the credits from billing settings and check the amount and expiry date under Credit grants.
- Pick one task that takes your team time every day and test it on the credits for 30 days.
- Set a spending limit or turn off Auto Recharge until the result is clear.
The Origami view
The credits do not make AI free, but they remove the hardest excuse for not trying it: a budget for the first test. The common mistake we see is spending the trial on general chat instead of one measurable task. Pick a task with a clear number, such as hours spent on sorting or data entry, and measure it before and after. When we build custom systems for our clients, we start with exactly this kind of short pilot, then connect the result to the company's own systems securely. If you want help choosing the first task or building it, contact us or see our services.

Frequently asked questions
How much free API credit does ChatGPT Business give my company?
$20 a month for every paid Standard seat and $100 for every paid Premium seat, pooled across the workspace and capped at $500 a month, or $6,000 a year for workspaces that pay annually upfront.
Who in the company can claim the ChatGPT API credits?
Only the owner of the ChatGPT Business workspace who also owns the API organization, using the same email address on both. An admin who is not the owner cannot claim them, and the subscription must be paid and at least 7 days old.
Do unused ChatGPT API credits roll over to next month?
No. Unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle, and the first grant is prorated for the days left in the current cycle. New credits arrive automatically at renewal while the offer lasts.
Do the credits increase my team's usage limits inside ChatGPT?
No. They pay only for API usage billed to the linked organization, such as the Responses, Agents and Images APIs. They do not raise ChatGPT or Codex limits and do not cover Codex through API keys.
